Special Olympics Arizona Summer Games features six sports including Athletics, Tennis, Powerlifting, Gymnastics, Kayaking and Volleyball. Additional events include opening ceremonies, victory dance and Olympic Village. Athletes must have current medical release/consent form on file to attend events.
During Summer Games, Special Olympics Arizona also recognizes Healthy Athletes. Healthy Athletes was developed in 1996, to improve athletes' ability to train and compete in Special Olympics. Healthy Athletes is designed to help Special Olympics athletes improve their health and fitness, leading to enhanced sports experience and improved well-being. Healthy Athletes is open to all Special Olympics Athletes even if you are not registered for the Summer Games.
The Healthy Athletes Village is a community inside of the Summer Games, with the purpose of engaging the athletes in six of the seven disciplines of health and wellness: Fit Feet, FUNFitness, Health Promotion, Healthy Hearing, *Medfest, Opening Eyes and Special Smiles. (*Medfest is held in the fall)
