During Summer Games, Special Olympics Arizona also recognizes Healthy Athletes. Healthy Athletes was developed in 1996, to improve athletes' ability to train and compete in Special Olympics. The Healthy Athletes Village is a community inside of the Summer Games, with the purpose of engaging the athletes in six of the seven disciplines of health and wellness: Fit Feet, FUNFitness, Health Promotion, Healthy Hearing, *Medfest, Opening Eyes and Special Smiles.
