"In my 16 years in law enforcement, I have been involved primarily in running in our leg of the LETR. I was the only officer who ran the entire distance of our county, which is approximately 30 miles from the U.S./Mexico border to the Pima County line on I-19, in more than one event. As of a few years back, we now hold our event on a school track to allow for more community participation. Since last year, I am not only a participant, but the event coordinator for our agency. Being involved in LETR has impacted my life by showing me that we [in law enforcement] can do so much more to support our communities and Special Olympics Arizona athletes if we want to help and take the initiative to participate. To me, it is all about the athletes and seeing them feeling happy and accomplished, but I also have to say that I love to see the community come out and support them, cheer them on, and support law enforcement as well! I have had the privilege of meeting many athletes in my time participating in LETR. They are all wonderful and their persistence and discipline is admirable! Their drive and motivation is contagious and inspiring!"
