Event Description:

This Athlete Leadership Program is for athletes and unified partners currently involved in school-based programs.  Athletes and partners are paired together to be trained on public speaking and advocating on behalf of the Special Olympics Unified Sports Program.  Contact Tracy Roberts for more information.

A High School Special Olympics athlete will pair up with one of their Unified Sports® partners for the training. The trainers will be the Desert Vista High School Speech & Debate Team (4th Ranked in the Nation), their advisors and Special Olympics staff. Athlete and partner participants should be selected based on their excitement for the Unified Sports® program and their ability to effectively communicate that excitement in front of an audience. The workshop will be limited to 20 pairs (40 total students) and will last approximately threehours. The pairs will learn more about Special Olympics, Unified Sports® and ways to present their experiences and motivate others to get involved!
