Nick Sundberg was born July 29, 1987 and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Nick excelled in sports throughout his childhood by playing soccer, baseball, basketball and hockey. He also took karate for eight years in three disciplines; Kempo, Ti Quando, and Shotocon. Sundberg shifted his focus to football where he excelled; playing all four years for North Canyon High School’s football program. During his senior year, Sundberg was a team captain and was named All-Region Honorable Mention.
In July of 2005, Sundberg received a full athletic scholarship to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he played in 52 consecutive games and served as the long snapper his entire four-year college career. He won the starting job in preseason as a true freshman and served as the long snapper on field goals and punts in all 52 games during his time at Cal. Sundberg graduated in December 2008 with a degree in legal studies in three-and-a-half years.
Sundberg has played professional football for the UFL’s California Redwoods, the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and currently plays for the Washington Redskins. He has served as Washington's long snapper through the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Sundberg has always participated in community service. During college, Sundberg took a trip down to Tijuana, Mexico and helped build a house for a family in need with Habitat for Humanity. He has fed the homeless here in Phoenix and helped families in need in Virginia during Thanksgiving Harvest Feast for the Redskins. He supported the TASER Foundation and is a life time member of the Arizona 100 Club, both charities supporting families of fallen public safety officers. Sundberg enjoys participating in charities that assist the youth in his community. He has led activities to get children moving for NFL Play 60. He has participated in the Redskins Toy Drive, the Marine Toy Drive and a VA Children’s Hospital Toy Drive.
Sundberg spends his off seasons training and mentoring young long snappers from the greater Phoenix area. Bi-annually he provides financial assistance to get young long snappers into long snapping combines and competitions. In 2011, Sundberg found out a local high school football team was in need of a scoreboard so he provided them the money to purchase one.
In the July 2010, Nick Sundberg made a large donation to support the kick-off of the SOAZ/AIA Unified Sports® Program. In June of 2011, a partnership was formed between Special Olympics Arizona and the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) with the sole purpose of building a state-wide Unified Sports® system. Unified Sports® is an inclusive program that combines high school students with intellectual disabilities (athletes) and high school students without intellectual disabilities (partners) on sports teams for training and competition. Through a grant from Special Olympics International, the funds have been established to create a successful Unified Sports® league in high schools throughout Arizona.
