Special Olympics Arizona depends on and succeeds due to the time, energy, dedication and commitment of volunteers throughout the state. SOAZ Volunteers help to provide year-round sports training, athletic competition, and fundraising events for our athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Volunteering for Special Olympics Arizona can create a lifetime of friendships and rewards of immeasurable value. The following are the classifications of an SOAZ Volunteer:
Class A Volunteer – Individuals who have close physical contact with athletes and are in a position of authority, supervision and trust with athletes.
Class A Volunteers are included in the following categories:
-Games Management Team
-Head of Delegation
-Area Director
-Coach
-Unified Partner
-Chaperone
Class B Volunteer – Individuals who are those who assist in the event-planning and/or at the event, but are not necessarily in close physical contact with our athletes on a regular basis.
Class B Volunteers are included in the following categories:
-Day of Event Volunteers
-Office Volunteers
-Fundraising Events Volunteers

SOAZ looks for Individuals, Corporate Groups, Social and Religious Groups, Families…Volunteering for SOAZ is for anyone wanting to help make a difference in the lives of our athletes.
What does a volunteer do?
SOAZ is a volunteer-driven organization and provides year-round training and sports competition. A Volunteer or group of volunteers can help in many ways depending on your availability and interest. Opportunities on a local level include Coaches, Chaperones, Fundraisers and Unified Partners. Volunteers are always welcome to join event-planning committees who assist in the coordination of our five state-level competitions including Fall Games, Holiday Classic, Winter Games, Basketball & Cheer Competition and Summer Games.
