Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Special Olympics Arizona. We look forward to having you as a part of our team.

In order to register and get started as a volunteer with Special Olympics Arizona, please click on the Volunteer Interest Form at the top of this page and then complete and return the form to Gail Gilmartin, Volunteer Director, either by submitting online, faxing to 602-230-1110 or mailing to the SOAZ State office at 1850 N. Central Ave. Suite 900 Phoenix, AZ  85004.

If you have already volunteered at one of our state or local competitions and would like to become more involved with a local program or delegation, please click on the Class A Volunteer Form at the top of this page in order to to download, complete and submit the Class A Volunteer application. After completing the application, please mail to Gail Gilmartin, Volunteer Director to 1850 N. Central Ave. Suite 900 Phoenix, AZ  85004.  Please note a photocopy of your Drivers License needs to be submitted along with your signed application.

The Class A Volunteer form is intended for Class A Volunteers affiliated with a local program or those who wish to apply for Class A Volunteer status. 

Class A volunteers include all of the following:

  • Volunteers who have regular, close physical contact with athletes
  • Volunteers in a position of authority and supervision of athletes
  • Volunteers in a position of trust with athletes
  • Volunteers who handle substantial amounts of cash or other assets of the organization/program (“substantial” is defined as $5,000 or more)
  • Any volunteer with a  significant role within the organization

This includes but is not limited to: area directors, heads of delegation, coaches, unified partners, and chaperones. 

In addition to the Class A Volunteer form, those interested in becoming a Class A Volunteer must also take the following on-line trainings

General Orientation

Online General Orientation Training

Click on the link above to begin the online General Orientation Training.  This training is an introduction and overview of the Special Olympics organization.  The General Orientation is necessary only for those interested in Class A Volunteer clasification.  

 

Protective Behaviors

Online Protective Behaviors Training

Click on the link above to go to Special Olympics Protective Behaviors Training. The purpose of this training is to prevent sexual, physical, and emotional abuse of Special Olympics athletes.

The Protective Behaviors Training is necessary only for those interested in Class A Volunteer classifcation.
